Learning Support Specialist and Guidance Counsellor

We invite applications for a full-time teaching opportunity at St. Anne’s School in the role of Learning Support Specialist and Guidance Counsellor reporting to the Assistant Head of School, Director of Upper School. This position will begin in August 2023.
 
St. Anne’s School is looking for an exceptional learning support specialist and counsellor to support the academic, emotional, and social development of students in the school. The Learning Support Specialist and Guidance Counsellor will work with faculty and administrators to support the wellbeing of students and facilitate a circle of care.
 
As the learning support specialist, you will work with students who require academic support and help them develop skills and strategies to best support their learning. This will include the preparation of student support plans based on recommendations in psycho-educational assessments and working with parents, faculty, and students to implement and monitor these accommodations.
 
As a guidance counsellor, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of students in grades 7-10 by assisting each student with course counselling, developing executive functioning skills, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and relationships. Experience with university counselling is an asset.
 
In this role, you will also be responsible for teaching, which may include learning strategies and career studies.

Candidates are required to hold a relevant university degree (e.g., Bachelor of Education, Master of Education in Counselling Psychology, Master of Special Education or similar). Additional qualifications in Guidance and Special Education and/or Specialist qualifications in Guidance and Special Education are an asset. Candidates must have a comprehensive understanding of the Ontario Ministry of Education’s current curriculum and an understanding of legislation related to special education services in Ontario. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to contribute to the many facets of school life, including extra-curricular responsibilities. Coaching experience is a strong asset for applicants. Additionally, we seek candidates with a demonstrated willingness to participate in EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion) initiatives within the community.
